Extinct Invertebrate, Knitted

E5 has been on a sea-creature kick lately. It all started with seals and penguins, but has evolved into octopuses and other coleiods. When he found the ammonite fossil I keep in my desk drawer, he demanded a knitted version. Luckily there was already a pattern for one.

As you can tell, he really likes it.

1 Wedding and an Update

This weekend we traveled to Pennsylvania for the wedding of Karl’s cousin. E5 was the ring bearer for the ceremony and was just about the cutest little ring bearer I ever saw.

He was very dapper indeed.

It was a really lovely wedding and we all had a wonderful time.

For the trip, I optimistically brought 2 knitting projects to work on and 2 books to read. I think I knitted about 2 rows of this and read about 2 pages of this. We were so busy running around that time to do more just never materialized. Furthermore, I was away from the internet, like really really away, for the first time in forever. Amazingly enough, I did not die! It was an interesting experience to say the least but boy did I have a lot of junk email to delete when I got home!

So now we are done running around and going places for the summer, thank goodness! We can spend the remaining weeks of hot weather relaxing and trying to stay cool. Hopefully I can get some knitting done too. What are your plans for the rest of the summer?

Beach Day!

So here I am sitting at the beach. Even though it was kind of cloudy, and I had a sunscreen AND a hat on, I got a bit of a sunburn.

The seagulls were really entertaining, picking snails out of the water, flying up high with them, and then dropping  them back down to the beach to crack them open. They hung around us for quite a while, waiting for us to leave I’m sure, so they could fight over the crumbs of our lunch which ended up in the sand.

Also, I9 found a sea star:

which E5 was irrationally exuberant about.

You may have noticed that E5 is somewhat of a ham.

Awesome day.

Twofer Thursday

1. Last summer I cut open an apple to find that the seeds had sprouted so I threw them out into one of the pots of dirt I keep on the deck. At the end of the fall, Mr. Interrupted brought them up to his office. He kept them up there all winter long and brought them down tonight to go back outside. I was surprised to see what they look like now!

Baby apple trees!

2. Today we took advantage of the sunny day and hit the beach. It was too cold to play in the water, but the kids all had a grand time playing in the sand and catching crabs.

Hooray for spring!

More huge snow piles

By now you’re probably wondering if I ever post knitting content any more. Well NOT TODAY! Today you get another picture of an enormous pile of snow.

This pile was spotted in the Target parking lot. I should probably go over to the mall and take a picture of the enormous snowy mountain they have made over there. You can check back tomorrow for knitting content, but since the plan is to hit the sledding hill, I can’t guarantee that there won’t be another picture of snow.

Deep Thoughts

I had the following thoughtful conversation with my 4-year-old when we got home from running errands today:

Him: Mommy, do dogs get old and die?
Me: Yes.
Him: Do people get old and die?
Me: Yes.
Him: People use food to grow up, so I don’t want to eat food and grow old and die.
Me: *sigh*  E4, you need to eat food to live. Do you want to live?
Him: Yes.
Me: Then you need to eat food.
Him: Do mommies get old and die?
Me: Yes, but I’m not going to get old and die for a long long long long time.
Him: Do kids get new mommies when their mommies die?
Me: No, honey. You only get one mommy.
Him: But what would happen to me?
Me: Oh honey. If I died, daddy would take care of you. And aunt Rachel, and Grandma Uma, and Bumpa, and Grandma Suzanne and PopPop Justin. Lots and lots of people love you as much as mommy and daddy love you, so I don’t want you to worry about that, okay?
Him: Okay.
Me: Now, do you want to eat something?
Him: Okay.

It’s hard being a parent sometimes.

Strange Moments in Mothering

An actual conversation with my 4 year old this morning:

E4: Mommy, I9 hurted me
Me: o rly? how did he hurt you?
E4: I don’t know.
Me: uh, okay? (raises voice) I9, no hurting your brother!
I9: Okay!
E9: (runs off)

(sledding @ the park yesterday, a good time was had by all)

Poisson

I’ve had a slight cold for the last couple of days which, while it hasn’t been too horrible, has been a great excuse to park myself on the sofa and knit. I cast this hat on Sunday afternoon and finished it last night.

[ravelry]

This was a great knit, fast and fun, a treat, especially after the l-o-n-g s-l-o-g of Hippy Dippy.

I’m still somewhat sick, luckily, because I’ve promised a fish hat to E4.

Happy Halloween!

I hope you and your little monsters have a perfectly gruesome Halloween!
