1 Wedding and an Update

This weekend we traveled to Pennsylvania for the wedding of Karl’s cousin. E5 was the ring bearer for the ceremony and was just about the cutest little ring bearer I ever saw.

He was very dapper indeed.

It was a really lovely wedding and we all had a wonderful time.

For the trip, I optimistically brought 2 knitting projects to work on and 2 books to read. I think I knitted about 2 rows of this and read about 2 pages of this. We were so busy running around that time to do more just never materialized. Furthermore, I was away from the internet, like really really away, for the first time in forever. Amazingly enough, I did not die! It was an interesting experience to say the least but boy did I have a lot of junk email to delete when I got home!

So now we are done running around and going places for the summer, thank goodness! We can spend the remaining weeks of hot weather relaxing and trying to stay cool. Hopefully I can get some knitting done too. What are your plans for the rest of the summer?

So That Happened

So, the sleep study was interesting. They hooked me up to all manner of wires and sensors, including one that went across my face and under my nose,

and then I attempted to sleep. I say attempted because I really did have a hard time sleeping. Not only is it really difficult to fall asleep when you are aware of something on your face and under your nose, but I was also kind of excited about the sleep study, so every time I felt myself starting to drift off, I would wake myself up thinking “OMG I’m falling asleep! SQUEE!” Then at some point my minder asked me to sleep on my back for a while, but because I am paranoid about sleep apnea I have kind of trained myself not to sleep on my back and so I didn’t really sleep for that part of the study. Also, there was one sensor on my scalp which kept coming off and had to be reapplied a couple of times during the night.

So yeah, it was a pretty rough night, although my minder told me I did get some sleep even though I felt like I didn’t get any. And I didn’t get to try a CPAP during sleep either, which was kind of disappointing because it means I will likely have to have another study done.

Verdict: Sleep studies are not as fun as they sound.

Another Tale From Yesterday

In an effort to get some of my energy back, I’ve been trying to get a little bit of exercise. The idea is to do a little every day, but I confess that it’s incredibly difficult to stick to the plan when I am so tired I can barely get through the day without a nap. And this past gloomy, rainy week wasn’t any help either. Yesterday, I finally managed to get out of the house with the boys for a walk down our street and back. The round trip is a nice, flat half mile. Our tree-lined street is a one nice, too. With the except of our condo and the blue condos you see in the picture below, all of the houses are old Victorians, most of which have been converted to multi-family homes, but they are still lovely. It was a nice walk, in spite of yesterday’s shitty ass weather.

There were some puddles to splash in

and lots of flowers (a miracle, given the lack of sunshine)

(the lilac hedge has got to be my favorite!)

It was such a nice walk that we went again today (I didn’t bring the camera this time though). I still had to have a nap today, but it was still nice to get out of the house. :-)

Today was our concert, culminating weeks of orchestra rehearsals. I had the best seat in the house.

What a great day for a fiber festival!

And we had an awesome time, as usual! As for the new fibery acquisitions:

A Starfire batt from Spin a Bit. It literally called my name. It’s sparkly!

Some lovely hand painted silk caps from A Touch of Twist. Also from A Touch of Twist, I picked up some really pretty hand painted tencel fiber.

I don’t know what I’m going to do with it, but it’s so pretty, how could I not get it?

Then I picked up a couple of bobbins from The Merlin Tree

And then after lunch, we watched my awesome bloggy buddy, Kris of the Painted Sheep, give her presentation on dyeing!

Such a great time!

A Fun Day (with a slightly TMI picture)

I had some dental work done today! My very back tooth had an old amalgam filling which the dentist wanted to replace with a shiny new (not shiny) composite filling.

He had to give me 3 shots to numb me sufficiently (his nifty new Single Tooth Anesthetic thingy just didn’t work on me) and after the work was finished, he ever so helpfully informed me that I will be numb until Tuesday.

Luckily I’m not too numb for knitting!

Beach Day!

So here I am sitting at the beach. Even though it was kind of cloudy, and I had a sunscreen AND a hat on, I got a bit of a sunburn.

The seagulls were really entertaining, picking snails out of the water, flying up high with them, and then dropping  them back down to the beach to crack them open. They hung around us for quite a while, waiting for us to leave I’m sure, so they could fight over the crumbs of our lunch which ended up in the sand.

Also, I9 found a sea star:

which E5 was irrationally exuberant about.

You may have noticed that E5 is somewhat of a ham.

Awesome day.

Well Then, That Was Interesting

I wish I could say that it was a lovely day to be at the beach today, but it wasn’t. Although we did have a fun time, it was far too windy and cold to say that it was “nice”. I think the temperature might’ve gotten up above 60 but the funny (and I don’t mean funny “ha-ha”) thing is that the wind probably did too. There’s nothing like sitting on the beach getting sand blasted. Not only did I not take my knitting out, I didn’t take my camera out either. Which is fine, because when we got home I found sand in places I thought would have been safe from the wind. Like the inside of my ear. Still, the kids (it was my 2 and my friend’s 4) all dug holes in the sand and sat in them, which looked like it could’ve been kind of fun. And at least we weren’t sitting at home, doing laundry. I’m pretty sure watching the kids dig holes in the sand and sit in them is rather a bit more fun than doing laundry. Any day.

Twofer Thursday

1. Last summer I cut open an apple to find that the seeds had sprouted so I threw them out into one of the pots of dirt I keep on the deck. At the end of the fall, Mr. Interrupted brought them up to his office. He kept them up there all winter long and brought them down tonight to go back outside. I was surprised to see what they look like now!

Baby apple trees!

2. Today we took advantage of the sunny day and hit the beach. It was too cold to play in the water, but the kids all had a grand time playing in the sand and catching crabs.

Hooray for spring!

One of Those Days

We stayed up entirely too late last night, as we are still trying to adjust to Daylight Saving Time, and mornings around these parts have been rather rough the last few days. So rough, in fact, that we had convinced ourselves (thanks to help from the calendar! stupid calendar!) that our firstborn had a doctor’s appointment today. Not only did he not have an appointment with the doctor we thought he had an appointment with, he didn’t even have an appointment with the doctor whose name we had written down! In other words, we dragged ourselves from our bed before we were ready, got the kids ready and out of the house, and drove from one end of town to the other FOR NO REASON AT ALL. We really don’t understand why DST is shredding our ass so thoroughly this year, but it really is. And we are not lying.

In other news, we have finished the body of our sweater and have started a sleeve. Pictures possibly tomorrow? Or maybe even Friday? Further, we have frogged and restarted the sock class socks and are considering frogging and restarting again. First they were too big, and now we don’t particularly care for the acute pointiness of the toe. We hope our students understand if we don’t have a whole 7-3/4 inches of sock to show them on Saturday when we start work on the heel turn.

Lastly, here’s a picture from our aquarium trip which amuses us greatly.

See you tomorrow!
