A Year of Knitting

It’s Caturday and rainy here–a perfect day for knitting. I will probably work on
a furry scarf to go with
a furry hat (it’s done, but needs elastic or something)
E’s socks in the Killer Bees colorway from the Yarn Pirate
and maybe even the first learning sock from Cat Bordhi’s new book (now that I’ve got a proper set of stitch markers for it)!
NPR’s All Things Considered featured today a much needed and happy diversion from the horrible and sad news of the moment.
I really wanted to do a post today, but the assassination of Benazir Bhutto has kept me glued to the crap news coverage on CNN and MSNBC. There’s plenty I want to say about it, but I feel completely at a loss for words. Therefore, I direct you to my Totally Awesome Sister’s blog where she has not only succinctly summed up the tragedy, but in describing her own feelings about it, has surprisingly mirrored my own.
Now, I’m going to go take an infusion of wool. Here, would you like some?

Hope you got everything you wanted for Christmas!
1. My friend Jen won a contest. Yay! Check out the 12 Knits of Christmas!
2. The Yarn Harlot was mentioned today in the New York Times as the coiner of the word Kinnear (v).
Isaac: Hey mommy! Cable rhymes with… uh… Duck!
Mommy: Um, no.

The Winter Solstice was marked this morning, December 22, at 1:08 am EST, as the sun reached its lowest point in the sky for the year. Human beings have observed this moment for thousands of years and cultures the world over universally celebrate something having to do with the return of the sun in some incarnation or another. What ever the name of your winter festival, may the sun smile on you and yours as we gather together in peaceful reflection and joyous celebration.

It’s now a big black star-shaped blob of an albatross around my neck. It must be a new record.
This fun little meme comes from cowgalutah. Do a google images search on the answers to the following questions and post the first result thusly:
How old will you be on your next birthday?
What is the name of a place you would like to visit?
What is your favorite place?
What are your favorite things?
What is your favorite food?
What is your favorite color?
What is your nickname?
Where were you born?
Fun, huh? If you use this meme on your blog, let me know. I would love to see what you come up with.
