Where’d I go just now?

I hope you all don’t mind that I took a little blogging break. This week has just been a little weird and I’ve been busy with other, non-bloggable stuff. So, I’m back, and hopefully a bit more regularly. And what, you might ask, have I been doing the last few days that I CAN blog about? Well, for starters, I’ve been knitting:

And I got some sock club yarn (I hope everyone has gotten their packages. CT seems to be the last place to get them…):

and I took field trip with the boys:

Can you guess where?

A Hat, Unoriginal

I’ve had some Schaefer Kathleen yarn kicking around in my stash for a while now. Picked up on sale at a not-so-LYS this summer, I had a very hard time settling on a project for it. The yarn is gorgeous and I am so in love with this colorway that I want to marry it. (No really. I knitted my Clapotis (a pre-ravelry/pre-blog project) in this colorway and I also have it in a hank of sock yarn. Love it.) So, with the Sweater of Rassilon on a time out right now, I pulled this yarn out of my stash and started poking around on Ravelry. Thank goodness for the miracle of Ravelry–someone finally posted a project in this yarn that wasn’t a scarf and only needed one hank of yarn.

Wollmeise, Hooray!

Last week was WDD (Wollmeise Delivery Day). The yarn was spectacular, of course, but it was the little goodies that really made my day. There were Christmas gummies (which didn’t even make it to the second picture, hah!) and a sweet little shooting star cookie cutter. But the best thing was a small ball of yarn that, when unrolled, contained a special and festive stitch marker. Hooray for Wollmeise!

It was worth it

We made the trek up to Massachusetts on Thursday to join in the wedding celebration of my husband’s step-brother and long-time girlfriend companion partner (seriously, what to you call her when they’ve been together nearly 10 years and have a kid? I mean, “partner” just makes them sound like an old lesbian couple, which they most certainly are not. But I digress…). I don’t normally care for weddings and their after-parties, but it was nice to see the couple so happy and excited. Luckily, the wedding part was short and I didn’t have to go to the reception since it was adults only. I was able to take the boys back to the hotel for a quick dip in the pool, some dinner, and a quiet evening with a movie on TV (and my knitting). But the best thing about this trip is that the wedding was near Northhampton. And we all know what’s in Northhampton, right?

Oh, yeah.

Webs was awesome. Seriously amazing. And somewhat overwhelming. My husband even came inside with me and helped wrangle the children while I browsed. The front of the shop is spacious and gorgeous and by far the largest yarn shop I’ve ever been in. And then we went in the back.

lots of yarn

I could have spent all day in there. It’s like a yarn expedition. But the kids were restless and grumpy and their daddy was bored to tears. Here’s how it sounded:

Me: Wow! Isn’t this amazing?! Have you ever seen so much yarn? Look at this! And this! Isn’t this yarn gorgeous? Look over there. Oh my gosh, this is so awesome.”

Him (wryly): Yeah, it’s really great honey.

I-6: Mommy, this is boring.

E2: (screaming his head off due to exhaustion and frustration).

I got some sock yarn on sale:

more sock yarn

and some that wasn’t

more sock yarn

then made a hasty exit. But I’ll be back. Oh yeah, I’ll definitely be back.

Obligatory Sock Yarn Stash Photos

Well, the start of the Summer of Socks 2008 is just around the corner. Let’s see what we have in the ol’ stash, shall we?

(View the photo on Flickr to see my notes.)

You know, I really have no excuse not to be knitting socks right now. Also, I just realized that there are two balls of sock yarn not pictured. Heh…

And here it all is, tucked sweetly into my knitting basket, all set and ready to go.

Friday is Yarn Day

Yes, it’s true. Look what came in the mail today:

Enough yarn to make two sweaters and a skirt (for me),

And a kick-ass book.

How much do I love KnitPicks? A lot! Do you love KnitPicks?

You Know You Do Too

I have a friend who is doing me an enormous favor by giving me weekly acupuncture treatments and only asking that I cover the cost of the needles, which turns out to be about $10/treatment. I offered begged pleaded with her to let me pay her for her time but she flat-out refused, so I decided to knit her a thank you gift. My first idea was to knit her a pair of socks, and I went online and ordered some lovely yarn. I must have forgotten about it because the very next day, I decided that she would probably enjoy a dishcloth or two and cast on this and then this. Then the yarn I ordered surprised me by showing up in my mailbox. I must have been feeling generous when I ordered it because look what I got:

People, I can’t knit up this yarn and send it off to gods know where! The only thing I want to do with this yarn is leave it on my desk where I can admire it and maybe sometimes cuddle it and sniff it.

I know. I have problems.

The Universe Loves Balance

I couldn’t wear my favorite hand knit socks today and I was terribly sad.

But then I got a package in the mail and I wasn’t sad anymore.

Friends That Rock

Today I joined the ABC-along on Ravelry. The idea is to post a meaningful-to-the-photographer photo every other week that corresponds with the assigned letter of the alphabet for that week. I offer for “A”

the Amaryllis blossom at my friend Dawn’s house. We spend at least one afternoon at her house per week. The boys play while we knit together. Well, at least that’s how it’s supposed to work. Some days (like today) we spend more time mediating arguments and disagreements between our four boys than actually knitting, but we still have fun.

Speaking of fun and my friend Dawn, look what she gave me today:

Blue Moon Fiber Arts’ Socks That Rock in the Xmas Rock colorway. Isn’t it awesome? This my very first skein of STR. I love love love this yarn and can’t wait to knit with it. It’s soft and squishy and gorgeous. Thank you so much, Dawn!
