Happy September

O Hai, blog. It’s September already. I’ve had a pretty good couple of weeks. We survived a glancing blow from our first major tropical storm, Isaac. Omg, so much rain! The canal behind our place got SSSSOOOOO FULL!

(here’s what it looks like normally) We were really lucky, although we did get a leak in the ceiling which got our TV wet. The big thing is our power never went out and so we never lost our sweet, delicious air conditioning. So, yay!

Then I tortured Lolly for fun.

And, yesterday, I cut off all my long hair.

I really admire people who can get good iPhone-in-the-bathroom-mirror shots of themselves. I had such a hard time posing myself, lol.

Also, I’ve been knitting, but of course there aren’t any pictures of that.

Totally Random Monday

1. The alpaca handspun has been locked in a smallish box with the mini dehumidifier I ordered from amazon for several days now. Very soon, maybe even tomorrow, I can either wrap the skeins into hanks or get started knitting with them. There is much to do, what with only 149 days until Christmas Day.

2. I finished the hand spun baby sweater:

It still needs a wash, but I think I’ll call it done for now anyway.

3. I thought I might’ve had enough leftover yarn to make a cute little hat to go with it but alas:

It wasn’t meant to be.

4. Lolly has, at long last, warmed up to Snowflake enough to share the big poofy cat bed (actually a bean bag chair) with him.

As you can see, he’s rather pleased with himself.

tDf: Day Whatever

So you may have noticed that the shine has gone of my enthusiasm for the Tour de Fleece and the reason why is this: all that yarn I washed back on day 8 IS STILL NOT DRY.* I am starting to worry that it might started to become mildewed, although I know intellectually that this is unlikely since wool is naturally mildew resistant. Still, OMG YOU GUYS THIS YARN IS STILL WET! It’s not super wet, you can feel just a little bit of wetness in the center of the yarn when you squeeze it. I made a post on in the Florida Spinners group on Ravelry (also Facebook), and while there have been a few responses, it’s nothing that I haven’t tried already. Also my cat is starting to eat the yarn. Lolly is such a dumbass, you guys. She thinks all this yarn hanging around is a special buffet I’ve laid out just for her. Yesterday when I was moving the yarn to a drying rack underneath the ceiling fan I found several severed strands where she has eaten who knows how many inches. ARGH. And so I figured that I’d better slow my yarn production until I can figure out how to get it dry more quickly so I can get it tucked safely into the stash before the damn cat gets to it. So far, in addition to all the normal stuff like hanging it with a fan nearby to blow on it, I have put it in a container of rice and am now considering sticking it in my electric food dehydrator.

*Actually, that’s not entirely true, the singles I made dried up beautifully. Their beauty shots are here and here.

Box City

Wow, this week has gone by so quickly. I’ve been so crazy busy what with the upcoming move. There was so much to do! Today was packing day! The crew arrived around 9 this morning and, after a flurry of packing, our house looks rather a bit like a Minecraft game. BOXES EVERYWHERE! Of course, poor Lolly is freaked the fuck out. She spent the day cowering under the bed so she is highly suspicious about this sudden appearance of all these boxes.

While they were working, I decided to ply up last week’s singles. First (last night) I wound the single into a center pull ball:

Isn’t it pretty?

And then this morning, I did an Andean ply.

Sadly all my spinning stuff is packed away so finishing it will have to wait until we’re settled in down there, but the spinning work is done. Tuesday the movers are coming to empty our house into a truck and then we head to Florida! I can’t believe moving day is almost here! w00t!

Happy Caturday

A couple of weeks ago, I mentioned that the Mister and I both got our Christmas presents early: a pair of iPhone 4s’. We love them! Having a camera on me at all times has really made it easy for me to take more pictures of the cats than usual.

I love how the flash makes them all squinty. I see I need to harass Doozer more often since that mosaic is so Lolly-centric. Have a happy and relaxing Caturday, everyone!

Dear Blog,

I haven’t forgotten you. I hope to come back tomorrow with a post, but we shall see. In the mean time, here is a picture of Lolly in a chicken hat.

Happy Caturday!

Hope your Caturday featured your favorite toys too. Cheers!

Sweater Deathmatch, Round 6

I’ve got about 3 inches of button band/shawl collar finished (it’s all bunched up so the stitches don’t drop off the needles) and won’t be able to get any more done until after orchestra rehearsal tonight. Also, look what Lolly did:

I swear, if Doozer didn’t like her so much, I would make the most delicious stew out of her. Grr….

Lolly

too busy, can’t blog

I have so much to do before bed and it’s already 9 o’clock! See you tomorrow!
