And, nearly 1 year after casting it on, I finished the fish hat I cast on for E5. Well, mostly. It still needs eyes, but it’s close enough for government work. How has your week been?
Last year, my NaNoWriMo book was a really terrible zombie novel which ends with the utter destruction of the city of White Plains, NY by nuclear fire. Zombies are everywhere (figuratively) nowadays, you may have noticed, and ever since we started watching The Walking Dead, I have had the occasion of interesting, but not wholly frightening, zombie apocalypse dreams. This morning, our house was about to be overrun, and I was trying to evacuate Doozer and Lolly by stuffing them into sacks. Lolly got away and was immediately consumed by the shambling undead hoard. Trufax.
If only we lived on the SS Huckleberry.
I mean honestly? Today on the weather channel I listened to an exchange between the two anchors about the extremely long weather delays today at the New York airports. “So don’t forget to grab a good book or some knitting!” the first anchor said, to which the other anchor replied “is knitting even *allowed* in airports?”
Really?
When has a terrorist EVER taken down a plane with his or her knitting implements? I mean, I can’t even think of an instance of this happening in *fiction*. Is there a secret cadre of knitting ninjas out there that I am not aware of?
And suddenly the month of November has flown by. What have I been up to?
Well, It was my little orchestra’s fall concert on the 21st, and so there were rehearsals and more rehearsals followed by a lovely holiday concert last Sunday! I wore a dress! Sadly I forgot to bring my camera, so there is no photographic evidence. You’ll just have to take my word for it.
I made a Special Olympics scarf! I haven’t worked with Red Heart Super Saver in a while but to be perfectly honest, it wasn’t the end of the world. I would knit with it again. If I had to.
Then it was thanksgiving! (Happy belated Thanksgiving!) Our little Thanksgiving dinner was wonderful. I made a delicious boneless (yes, really!) turkey with all the trimmings and my guys and I shared a delightful, delicious dinner with my Totally Awesome Sister.
We put up the tree.
And today I finished reading The Towers of Midnight. What a great book! I’m so glad that Brandon Sanderson took on the mantle of finishing Robert Jordan’s epicly epic tale. As I neared the end of this book, I could feel the excitement rising within me, but also I was feeling kind of sad because I know the end is coming. If you haven’t read the Wheel of Time series yet, now’s a good time to start. The final book is due out in March of 2012.
Now, here are, staring down the business end of another holiday season. Only 26 shopping days left!
I’m kind of sad that I wasn’t able to cross the NaNoWriMo finish line this year, but my arm is certainly feeling better after the long rest. And, I’ve been mulling over some ideas for next year. I might even make another attempt during another month. January? Could be!
There has been knitting, but not much. Certainly not enough of which to have a photo.
How was your November? How did you keep busy?
…on NaNoWriMo 2010. My tendonitis flared up again, and by the time it’ll feel better I’ll have to give myself tendonitis just to catch up again. And frankly I’m just not enough in love with my story this year for it to be worth killing my arm. I’d rather be knitting. Anyway, good luck to all the WriMos still plugging along! You can do it!

I love love love these slippers! You may recall that I made a pair of these almost two years ago. I didn’t put bottoms on them and they fell apart eventually. I finally got around to casting on another pair! Yay! I will probably put bottoms on these, but have been wearing them around anyway. My feet have been too darn cold!
Every fall, crows from all of the city gather near my house to roost for the night. This is what it looks and sounds like.
Yesterday was the first of November and you know what that means! NaNoWriMo has begun!! I’ve been diligently plugging away, starting at midnight on Halloween night. I wrote about 700 words before I went to bed, staying up way past my bed time in the process. When I woke up yesterday, I wasn’t really excited about my story idea and as I tried to muster up some motivation to work on it, I realized that I am sorely out of writing practice. My writing muscles are considerably flabby. *wobble wobble* Last year (or was it the year before?) I had at least done some prepwork for NaNoWriMo. Not to mention I had been a more consistent blogger. I managed to hit my qutoa for the day anyway. Yay! I know I’ll get back into the swing of things, but that isn’t to say I didn’t consider throwing in the towel already. But I’ll keep at it anyway. Because it’s worth it. Anyone else out there doing NaNo? Feel free to add me as a buddy!

I just stopped by to brush a few cobwebs away. Here’s a quick update:
1. I finished the Knucks, although not in time for Rhinebeck. Which was totally okay because it was way too hot for fingerless gloves at Rhinebeck anyway.
I love this colorway.
2. I know some of you (like me) are into this sort of thing (you perverts!), so here is a picture of the inside:
I seriously considered weaving the ends into the knit side so I could wear them with the purl side out.
3. After I finished the Knucks, I cast on for a pair of Felted Clogs. I’ve finished one clog, but seem to have second slipper syndrome and have been spending a lot of time fantasizing about working on something different.
4. Did I mention I went to Rhinebeck? I didn’t buy much, just this:
and a little bit of spinning fiber. Any wonder I am feeling a little bit of second slipper syndrome?
5. NaNoWriMo is looming (heh heh heh). I have no idea what I’m going to write about. No characters, no plot, no nothing. This should be interesting.
How’ve you been?
Even as the knucks obsession winds down, I feel a new one ramping up. Owls. They’re everywhere, and I can’t stop thinking about knitted owl things. Perhaps an owl java jacket? Or a handful bowlful of these? Or this sweater?
