I has PJ pants now!

I had a great day today, hanging out with my friend Weaver who surged my PJ pants for me. Now I have two new pairs of PJ pants made from t-shirt stretch knit. (Thanks again Weaver!) They are going to be SO comfy this summer! I9 and E5 both have a pair too. Yay! While we were doing that, the kids played, and she showed off her new floppy sun hats and her chubby super heroes. Awesome! Now I am getting ready for this week’s trip to the beach where it will be a whopping 60 degrees. I’m bringing a sweater this time. And wearing long pants. But hey, at least we’ll be cold at the beach! Everything is more awesome when you’re at the beach. Even freezing your ass off.

Happy Skynet Day!

Yup, that’s right! At 8:11pm Skynet became self aware. The attack on humanity is due to begin on Thursday. Luckily for me I will be freezing my butt off at the beach, working on my dishrag. Because everyone knows you need to have your knitting in order should the apocalypse begin while you are out and about.

Drive By Blog Post

I’m just popping in here (you know, because of that daily obligation thing) to say that after a typical day of running errands, folding laundry, unloading and loading the dishwasher, making dinner, and unloading and loading the dishwasher again, I’ve decided to go ahead and get off the computer now and do some knitting. Have a wonderful evening/night/morning (depending on what time it is when this post reaches you)! <3

Also, here is a picture of an octopus. Have more than one octopus in your tank? Surprise, it’s not a tangle of octopi.

It Was a Sewing Kind of Day

As much as I am loving my chicken purse, and I am LOVING it, it was so difficult to find anything within its vast inner cavern. So, I picked up some coordinating fabrics at Joann’s and dug out my sewing machine. First I made a wallet, riffing (as I tend to do) on this tutorial from Babyangel. (I used her alternate zipper instructions, found here.)

(top-stitching a pocket)

(completed wallet, unfolded)

(completed wallet folded and in better light)

It just needs a snap or some other form of closure. I am so thrilled with how it came out!

Then I got some fabric bits leftover from making knitting project bags and made something else.

(I love that fabric.)

What is it you ask?

It’s one of these, of course!

And it works smashingly!

(inside the henbag).

Whew! A wonderful and productive sewing day!

A Plan

Thing the first: I need to have some travel knitting, something small and mindless for knitting abroad. Right now, that’s a dishcloth.

Thing the second: I need to actually work on my sister’s Blue Blossom Shawl so I can finally finish it already. It’s my evening knitting from now until it’s done.

Thing the third: The strangest sensation has taken me over and I have an intense desire to do some sewing. Tomorrow I will make a drawstring bag (or two), a hand bag organizer thingy, and some PJ pants for myself and the boys.

Thing the fourth: I have a couple of library books (The Lathe of Heaven and Lilith’s Brood) which I have on inter-library loan. If I am ever to finish reading them before I have to return them, I need to spend less time on the Internets. Well…. You know, I’ll TRY to do that.

No Knitting Here

I’ve been doing an astonishingly little amount of knitting lately. I mean, I fiddled around a little with the yarns I got at the yarn tasting and, in so doing, learned that I do not care at all for those tape yarns but that the CEY Seedling yarn is actually quite nice. Then I got out a ball of leftover cotton and knitted about half a little baby hat, but when they didn’t have the same colorway at Joann’s today, I came home and ripped it out. I realize now that I could have just finished it off with a coordinating color, but I just didn’t care enough. It’s not like I don’t have a shawl on the needles, and one that I really should be working on. It’s not that I don’t have plans for other stuff. I’m just, I dunno, taking a little break I guess. It’s like that sometimes, I suppose. But it doesn’t make for very interesting knit blogging.

Anyway, to that end, here are some things which amused me on the Internets this week:

Funny British Animal voice overs=LOL.

4th wall? What 4th wall?

This is highly funny to me on many levels.

Happy Friday everyone!

Twofer Thursday

1. Last summer I cut open an apple to find that the seeds had sprouted so I threw them out into one of the pots of dirt I keep on the deck. At the end of the fall, Mr. Interrupted brought them up to his office. He kept them up there all winter long and brought them down tonight to go back outside. I was surprised to see what they look like now!

Baby apple trees!

2. Today we took advantage of the sunny day and hit the beach. It was too cold to play in the water, but the kids all had a grand time playing in the sand and catching crabs.

Hooray for spring!

Knitting

Today

I had an appointment this afternoon with my pulmonologist and, literally as I was running out the door to make the appointment, I grabbed a teeny ball of yarn (leftovers from this) and a set of needles and stuffed them into my purse. Turns out it was a good thing that I remembered to bring some knitting with me, because the doctor had been delayed at the hospital and I had to wait (nearly 90 minutes) before he was able to see me. I cast on and knitted this much

of a teeny baby hat. It turns out I don’t have nearly as much of that yarn as I thought I did, but still, it kept my fingers busy and my mind active while I sat in the waiting room. I feel bad for E5 though. He was such a little trooper and waited so patiently. Also, I used the free wi-fi in the office to download angry birds for him to play, so that helped. Knitting and wi-fi, 2 things I cannot live without. And, it turns out, I can live without as much asthma medication as I have been taking. So it’s a WIN all around!

10 on Tuesday

Ten on Tuesday: Gluten-Free (also Dairy Free) edition!

Apologies for the lateness of today’s post! It’s been one of those days. So! Ten on Tuesday! This week’s topic is 10 favorite snacks and since I went gluten-free (also dairy free) last year, I spend a good-sized chunk of my time searching out gluten-free (also dairy free) snacks. SO! Here are my 10 favorite gluten-free (also dairy free) snacks!

1. Veggie Straws: Love them when I am craving salty crunchy snacks!
2. Popcorn: Another salty favorite! I oil pop mine on the stove the old-fashioned way. Mmm
3. These Chocolate Chip Cookies: So hard not to eat the whole batch in one sitting.
4. Coconut Yogurt: Pricey, but oh so delicious. (I’m trying to work out how to make my own in the crockpot.)
5. Bananas: Cheap, Perfect, portable, potassium. Eat them up, yum.
6. Any kind of fruit, really. I love watermelon, blackberries, apples, pears, rainier cherries, really good peaches. Oh my goodness, I cannot wait until the summer PYO season.
7. Nuts: Cashews are a favorite, but also almonds or brazil nuts or pecans.
8. Celery sticks: I like them smeared with peanut butter or (tofu!) cream cheese. One of these days I’ll mix up some dairy free ranch dip.
9. Orange Juice: does juice count as a snack? OJ is the perfect pick-me-up and goes well with a banana or a handful of cashews for a quick and filling mini-meal.
10. Herbal tea: ever since I gave up caffeine, I’ve been drinking a lot of herbal tea with honey. Mint in the morning and afternoon, and delicious Sleepytime Extra in the evening.

So that’s Ten on Tuesday for this week! What are your favorite snacks, gluten-free or otherwise?
