Blue Blossom Progress

I’ve made a little bit of progress on my sister’s shawl, finishing up the center blossom section and getting a good start of the outer open-work section which gave me so much trouble before. I’m doing it without all those stitch markers this time, so the knitting is going somewhat faster than it did before. It’s still going to take a long time though. According to my calculations this section will take about 60 hours of knitting. It seems overwhelming at this point, given that until now, I’ve only been able to give it a little of my knitting time in any one sitting. I really do need to find the time to work on it during the day too. I should also probably work a life line in there at some point as well. No pictures tonight though. My most humble apologies for that.

How are your knitting projects coming along?

The Sweater Killer is Serial

Very nearly a year ago this happened. Well, it happened again, only this time it was to this sweater.

I’m so upset, I don’t even have the words. I swear, I didn’t wash it any differently this last time than I have since the day I finished it. I put it in the water (lukewarm!) and it was only slightly fuzzed, and when I pulled it out it was felted. I don’t know if it’s my washing machine, agitating my wool on the sly, or if it got too jostled when I pressed it down into the water, or if it’s the crappy Wool of the Andes yarn. Blaaargh, I’m so frustrated and sad for my sweater. I loved it so much. :-(

O HAI Eleven PM!

So yeah, I just realized it’s eleven at night and I haven’t even thought about what to do for a blog post. Right now the Mister and I are streaming season 2 of Eureka on Netflix. I am pondering my knitting and playing the Red Dot game with the cats. Where did the day go? Um… That is a good question.

In other news, WTF, Osama Bin Laden has been killed. Obama is expected to make a speech soon, so I guess that is what I will be doing for the rest of the evening.

CT Sheep & Wool 2011

What a great day for a fiber festival!

And we had an awesome time, as usual! As for the new fibery acquisitions:

A Starfire batt from Spin a Bit. It literally called my name. It’s sparkly!

Some lovely hand painted silk caps from A Touch of Twist. Also from A Touch of Twist, I picked up some really pretty hand painted tencel fiber.

I don’t know what I’m going to do with it, but it’s so pretty, how could I not get it?

Then I picked up a couple of bobbins from The Merlin Tree

And then after lunch, we watched my awesome bloggy buddy, Kris of the Painted Sheep, give her presentation on dyeing!

Such a great time!

Apologies to those who really don’t care.

I am up at 4 am to watch the royal nuptials, just like I was 30 years ago. Of course I was a lot younger then, but I still remember sitting with up with my mom in the middle of the night, watching Diana walk down to aisle of West Minster Abbey to marry Prince Charles. I’ve got my boys here with me, although E5 fell back to sleep almost immediately.

I was 7 for the wedding of Charles and Diana and can remember so clearly the grainy images on our TV glowing quietly blue in the quiet dark of the extreme early morning. I remember her long walk up the aisle in her big poofy wedding dress and I remember them kneeling before the bishop(?) at the Abbey. I remember the carriage ride back to Buckingham palace and I remember their kiss on the balcony. Or perhaps I am remembering the now iconic images because they were so ubiquitous in the weeks of news coverage which followed Diana’s death. Well, her walk up the aisle is definitely is part of my hazy memory.

I’m not even sure why I am awake at this ungodly hour to watch this event. I’m honestly, not usually a follower of the British Royal family (do I capitalize that? I don’t even know) except that it is an event, a spectacle which will become a part of American culture. In a way. Mostly I don’t really care about the Royals, and I know there are many other (most?) Americans who could give a flying fig about this wedding, but here I am anyway.

Well, the bells at the Abbey are ringing now and the two Princes have arrived, so I shall close this post now. Are there any among my commentariat up at this hour watching this spectacle?

A Fun Day (with a slightly TMI picture)

I had some dental work done today! My very back tooth had an old amalgam filling which the dentist wanted to replace with a shiny new (not shiny) composite filling.

He had to give me 3 shots to numb me sufficiently (his nifty new Single Tooth Anesthetic thingy just didn’t work on me) and after the work was finished, he ever so helpfully informed me that I will be numb until Tuesday.

Luckily I’m not too numb for knitting!

Beach Day!

So here I am sitting at the beach. Even though it was kind of cloudy, and I had a sunscreen AND a hat on, I got a bit of a sunburn.

The seagulls were really entertaining, picking snails out of the water, flying up high with them, and then dropping  them back down to the beach to crack them open. They hung around us for quite a while, waiting for us to leave I’m sure, so they could fight over the crumbs of our lunch which ended up in the sand.

Also, I9 found a sea star:

which E5 was irrationally exuberant about.

You may have noticed that E5 is somewhat of a ham.

Awesome day.

I Give Up–NOT

Hey guys! I was going to come in here and be all “THIS SUX I QUIT!” But while I was fixing myself a cup of tea just now, I had a change of heart. I mean, by this point I’ve proven to myself that I am capable of posting to my blog every single day, but sometimes the posts really suck. I know that, and it kind of drives me a little crazy. I mean, not every day has a blog-worthy happening. I mean, honestly, how could it? But then I looked over my blog posts since I started this whole project and I realized that not all my posts are THAT sucky. And, you know what? It’s fun seeing all that content on this website. Content that I created. So screw you hater-Me! I’m going to keep on bloggin’, right on through to the end of the year (and beyond?).

Yeah!

Weird Searches Land Here Again

Browsing my site stats today, because I am geeky like that, I found some strange search terms pointing at my blog.

1. Carpets Don’t Eat People. No, no they do not. And THANK GOODNESS for that.

2. Bad Boys For Life. Um, I’m pretty sure they did not find what they were looking for here.

3. Evar. That’s right, EVAR!!!

4. Call in Sick. Here is a handy flowchart to help you answer this question. (via.)

I hope you Seekers found what you were looking for!
