Knitting Progress

Lest you think I’ve given up knitting in favor of video games, I started working on These Poor Socks again. Sock #1 is already done, so just a little ways to go. Also, I love this yarn. I’m going to have to get my hands on some more. After I use up what’s in my stash, of course.

2010: A Knitting Year In Pictures

What did your 2010 look like? Happy New Year everyone!

Hat Trick

I finished 3 hats this week! (See what I did there?)

[ravelry]

A Santa Hat for E5 with a MONSTER pom pom. Note to self, FunFur makes for very messy pom poms.

[ravelry]

A very manly hat for my father-in-law.

And, nearly 1 year after casting it on, I finished the fish hat I cast on for E5. Well, mostly. It still needs eyes, but it’s close enough for government work. How has your week been?

Felted Clogs for Toasty Toes

[ravelry]

I love love love these slippers! You may recall that I made a pair of these almost two years ago. I didn’t put bottoms on them and they fell apart eventually. I finally got around to casting on another pair! Yay! I will probably put bottoms on these, but have been wearing them around anyway. My feet have been too darn cold!

I just stopped by to brush a few cobwebs away. Here’s a quick update:

1. I finished the Knucks, although not in time for Rhinebeck. Which was totally okay because it was way too hot for fingerless gloves at Rhinebeck anyway.

I love this colorway.

2. I know some of you (like me) are into this sort of thing (you perverts!), so here is a picture of the inside:

I seriously considered weaving the ends into the knit side so I could wear them with the purl side out.

3. After I finished the Knucks, I cast on for a pair of Felted Clogs. I’ve finished one clog, but seem to have second slipper syndrome and have been spending a lot of time fantasizing about working on something different.

4. Did I mention I went to Rhinebeck? I didn’t buy much, just this:

and a little bit of spinning fiber. Any wonder I am feeling a little bit of second slipper syndrome?

5. NaNoWriMo is looming (heh heh heh). I have no idea what I’m going to write about. No characters, no plot, no nothing. This should be interesting.

How’ve you been?

Knitting

Because it’s the IN thing.

Even as the knucks obsession winds down, I feel a new one ramping up. Owls. They’re everywhere, and I can’t stop thinking about knitted owl things. Perhaps an owl java jacket? Or a handful bowlful of these? Or this sweater?

Hmm….

totally random sunday

1. I spent Friday night in the ER, thanks to a Starbuck’s barista playing fast and loose with the procedures that keep cow’s milk and soy milk separate. Note to all Starbucks baristas: soy milk and cow’s milk are not interchangeable! And yes, I really can tell the difference.

2. 11 years ago yesterday, my husband and I were married in a small private ceremony at Niagara Falls in Ontario, Canada.

Eleven years and I love him more now than I did the day we were married. <3

3. I finished one pair of Knucks and cast on another the very next day:

[ravelry]

People, if you haven’t made these yet, don’t let the finishing work put you off! It’s really not that bad. So go. Go now and make some Knucks!

4. Today is 10-10-10. Just sayin’.

5. Last night as I fell asleep, I was trying to come up with an idea for my NaNoWriMo novel this year. I woke up this morning with a great idea involving a bus, temporal displacement, and a sleepy mountain town in Colorado. Now to come up with a large cast of characters.

tries and fails to come up with a pithy title for this post.

I had a busy week this week, trying to get on top of all the houseworky things I have been neglecting. I started packing up the kids’ summer clothes and headed to the second-hand store to pick up some things they’ll need for cooler weather. I am so ridiculously excited for cooler weather that I cast on a new project:

[ravelry]

  • Long fingered Purple Knucks
  • ONline Supersocke
  • Size 2 needles

This is a great pattern! It’s fun and it knits up quickly. Yes, it’s a tad fiddly, but so worth it! Not sure I care about the yarn (it’s a bit scratchy) but I’m pressing on in the  hopes that a nice soak in some Soak will take care of it.

What have (or will) you cast on to celebrate cooler weather?

Random Baby Surprise Jacket

When my friend Adrienne announced at the beginning of summer that she would be knitting a Baby Surprise Jacket for one of her college professors, I knew I just had to make one too. I don’t know why. I’m not having a baby. I figured I could just put it in a box and save if for if we ever decide to have another one, or if anyone I know has a baby. And then I got tendonitis again, and I almost put this project on semi-permanent hibernation. But, as soon as my arm was feeling better, the noodle-cooking siren song that is the BSJ drew me right back in and I finished it.

Now, onward.

Rethinking Holiday Knitting

I have knitted holiday gifts for my close family members (5 people all together, since I don’t count the kids or my hubs) every year since I started knitting in 2003. As far as I know, these gifts were well received and appreciated. But this year, my heart just isn’t in it. I’m having a tendonitis flare-up and I realized that I’m just not a fast enough knitter to knit for everyone I know and still be able to knit the things I want for myself. Besides, how many cozies (head, neck, hand, foot) do people need?

A very good friend suggested that each year I pick one family member to knit for and I think this is a pretty darn good solution. It will give me a much needed break from Santa’s workshop, and it will make those items I’ve made before even more dear. So, this year, I pared my to-knit-for list down to one. And it is an enormous relief.
