Weird Facebook Status Juxtapositions

I have a strange assortment of friends on Facebook, apparently.

Meanwhile, on the dark side…

I was going to do a long post today about how addicted I am to spinning and how it’s cutting into my knitting/housecleaning/facebooking time. But I’m too tired. I was up too late spinning. Instead, some geeky fun. Apparently today is Star Wars Day.

May the 4th be with you!

Do I lose geek street cred if I could give a flying rat’s ass about Twitter?

Twitter is all the rage right now. Even though it’s been around a while (and so, not exactly newsworthy), it’s suddenly all over the news. Everybody seems to be using Twitter and they can’t shut up about it. NPR programs. Talking heads on CNN. Fictional characters. Cats. I admit, I tried it last year. (I also tried Plurk.) Meh, I say. I mean, I can see why it’s fun and trendy to do this sort of microblogging thing. Even Facebook (with which I have a love/hate relationship) is trying to climb up onto the microblogging bandwagon. But people, do we really need to be connected to teh internetz 24 hours a day, sticking our every banal thought out there into the ether for all to see? Really? This is what we’re all about now? Good gawd, shut off your computer (or your cell phone or what have you) and go outside and look at the sky or read a book or have an actual face-to-face conversation with a living, breathing human being! Or just trying being bored for 5 minutes. What the hell is wrong with being bored? Oh that’s right, nothing.

Oh, and tweet me about it when you get back. I do so enjoy a good 140 character or less update.

random · Thursday.

This must be Thursday.

It’s been a very crummy week for a couple of people close to me. Plus my arm hurts, so knitting is on a hiatus for now. Here’s my prescription for a bad week when you can’t knit.

Step one: go here. Say “omnomnomnom”. Refresh the page. Repeat.

Step two: now, here. Enjoy a dancing parrot with very good rhythm.

Step three: here. Laugh at the misfortune/idiocy of others.

Repeat steps 1-3 as necessary.

Do you have any internet favorites that make you laugh when you’re feeling down? Please share them in the comments. Bonus points if you can correctly identify the source of the quote in the title of this post.

Unique Pageant Talent

I like to think that if I were “pageant quality” (you know, like Sarah Palin), I would have a mundane, yet mindbogglingly amazing and weird talent like this.

My favorite part is where the audience claps for her holding up her leg.

Don’t ask me why.

I had an amazing and strange dream this morning, involving Captain Jack, Doctor Donna, and furniture shopping at Ikea.

Perhaps I need to have my head examined?

I know, I know.

It’s been a while. I have no excuse and can only offer apologies for the lack of posts around here lately. In a way, I just kind of mentally checked out of the blog this week. Well, since the beginning of the year, really. Anyway, in no particular order, here’s a list of what’s been going on:

1. I finished reading Water For Elephants. Wow, what a wonderful and deeply satisfying read. It’s also inspiring to see just how fantastic a NaNoWriMo novel can be.

2. I cast on and completed a pair of felted clogs (a ravelry link). They are are so awesome, everyone should make a pair. 2 pairs, even.

3. I cast on the Bird in Hand mittens and they are coming along quite nicely. In fact, stranded knitting may very well be my new favorite thing. Pictures soon.

4. I have a new asthma doctor and a new asthma medication. I hope to be breathing better soon.

5. My tendinitis has flared up again. I think it might have something to do with my trying to knit faster, which I remember trying to do last time, too. My new mantra: I do not need to hold the world record. I can knit at the speed which is comfortable for my body. It’s OK if it takes more than a day to complete a pair of socks. I do not need to hold the world record. Om.

6. We have a new president. I tried to capture the moment yesterday while watching the ceremony on the teevee machine and knitting, only to fail miserably at getting any good photos. I was moved to tears by his speech, especially the part where he referred to the sacrifices of our ancestors and reminded us that those sacrifices were made for us. It was amazing.

7. I have been sitting so still in this room for so long that the automatic lights have switched off.

What a Week

1. NaNoWriMo started.

2. I came down with my first cold of the season. It’s the worst cold ever (not the flu as previously suspected).

3. Barack Obama was elected to the presidency on the United States of America on Tuesday.

4. I got my period.

5. I gave up on NaNoWriMo.

6. I changed my mind.

7. I finished one knitting project without actually starting another.

We live in interesting times. Seriously.
