I am a little curious what they told their AI to look for.

Corporate Kids
Am I the only one disturbed by this article about public schools buying curriculum from corporations for $16 a pop so they can learn how to gamble on the stock market?
The Flu Strikes
Warning: the following was written while in the throws of flu-induced fever. I cannot be entirely responsible for the content.
I’m sick. I’ve got all the classic symptoms. I haven’t knitted or written at all today. I watched Regis and Kelly, Rachael Ray, and The View before taking a nap. When I woke up I watched CNN until 4 pm (it was an eternity), at which point I switched over to Oprah. Followed by the 5 pm news, the 6 pm news, the 630 “world” news and then the Election Eve News Special. Now I’m watching the Chinese restaurant episode of Seinfeld and Mr. Interrupted is trying to wrangle the children by bribing them with Taco Bell food. To top it off, 3000+ words into my novel, I think I need to start over. I’m already bored with it. I mean, two of my main characters are eating cereal and talking about the National Enquirer, for crissakes! Although, I probably won’t change the plot, just the starting point and the voice (from 3rd person to 1st). How long does the flu last?
I got nuthin’
This week’s 3am Epiphany just never materialized for me. The exercise was to choose a list of 10 words (e.g., the top 10 words of 2004) and write a story fragment using them. I simply wasn’t inspired by it. My sister had a good one, though. Come to think of it, my sister has had a string of really amazing blog posts, you should go over and read the last week or so. Speaking of lessons learned, I’ve learned a couple of lessons myself this week:
1. It’s not a good idea to eat crystallized ginger by the handful.
2. It’s easier, by far, to spin BFL than a Merino/Silk blend.

The 80’s rule! This was my favorite video and song back in the day and now someone has gone and made it all make sense. Now if I can just find my swatch watches and friendship bracelets, I’ll be all set! (Thanks again, buzzfeed!)
My New Favorite Internet Game
Update–> my friend Rima is right. Yahoo’s Babel Fish is WAY more entertaining!
Put some English text into Google’s translator and translate it to Japanese. Then copy and paste the resulting Japanese characters back into the translator and translate form Japanese to English. Awesome!
for example:
Where has the House of Reps’ website gone?
Update 2–> nope, gone again. Hrm…
Update–>it’s back (sort of). Yay?
What has happened to the US House of Representatives‘ website? It seems to have gone dark.
Am I the only one who can’t access it?

I recently spotted this adorable lace-up sheep from Plan Toys. I am going to ask Santa to stuff it in my stocking.

What closet?
Clay Aiken is “out”, evidently.
5 New Things
1. I now have two asthma inhalers. One is for maintenance, one is for acute attacks–a rescue. I use a spacer because I am inhaler-challenged. Here’s to better breathing in the weeks to come.

2. I have a new phone. Isn’t it nifty?

3.I finished the Feather and Fan Cardigan. I’m not sure what to do about it. It’s way too big. I wonder if I can shrink the hell out of it in a hot water wash. Any other suggestions?

4. I made the boys zippered coin purses. Isaac needs something for his library card and pocket change. E2 needs one because I-6 has one. It was the first sewing I’ve done since I retired from sewing back in April of last year. It wasn’t all that bad and I actually considered sewing the kids’ Halloween costumes this year. Then I came to my senses and repacked all my sewing regalia and stuffed it back in the closet.

5. The first Wollmeise Sock club shipment arrived today. I now understand what the big deal about Wollmeise is. The yarn is exquisite. The colors are absolutely breathtaking. And the Wollmeise herself is personable and sweet. If heaven were a sock yarn, it would be Wollmeise. (Click through for the photo.)
