Buzz off?

Remember how some shops are using ultrasonic tones piped outside to discourage teenagers from gathering in large groups in front of them? It looks like the teens have turned the tables and are now downloading the ultrasonic tones to their cell phones so they can take calls on the sly while in school. I wondered if I would be able to hear the tones, so I took this quiz.

You are the typical teenager
You can hear the frequency of the mosquito teen repellent – but probably not for much longer! The highest pitched ultrasonic mosquito ringtone that I can hear is 17.7kHz
Find out which ultrasonic ringtones you can hear!

What is the highest frequency you can hear? Thanks to John Scalzi over at Whatever for the links.

E is for…

E2, my second-born.

E2 (still) can’t say cracker. He can’t say banana, either (he says “booya”).

He also has a great sense of humor. One day, after a recent snow storm, he and I were driving home from the market (I-6 had stayed home with daddy) and he was talking to me about what he wanted to do when we got home.

He said, “I make snowball, mommy.”

“Oh?” I replied.

“Yeah! I throw it!”

“Yeah, you can throw a snowball,” I said.

“I throw it at Isaac’s face!”

Yep, E is for my 2nd born. :-)

A Funny Thing Happened at the Grocery Store

Today, the gay cashier at Trader Joe’s said the matching sweaters I made for the boys were “faaa-bulous!”.

Knitting · TKGA

Master’s Monday 9

For me, the hardest part about level one of the TKGA master knitter certification has been staying focused and motivated enough to finish it. This week, I spent a lot, and I mean a lot, of time, thinking about weaving in the ends of my swatches, or thinking about sitting down to flip through the stitch dictionaries, or thinking about doing something on my TKGA project. But in the end, I didn’t actually do anything. Instead, I finished these:

And then I cast on this:

And these:

(sorry about the crap photo)

I still hope to have my binder completed and sent to the guild by the end of this month, but I will really have to buckle down if I’m going to meet that goal. *sigh*

SPLOG!

There is a Splog out there, using a bot to scrape content from my site (et al.) and post it randomly as its own. This is also known as stealing. If you are reading this on any domain other than knittinginterrupted.com, then you are reading stolen content on a splog. I’m not going to link to the splog, because that just makes the splog appear legitimate and we don’t want to do that. Splogging and blog scraping is apparently a growing problem in the blog-o-sphere and there really isn’t a lot we can do about it. I am going to file a DMCA notice with the splog’s host and hopefully they will take the splog down. I know there are other knit blogs that have been scraped by this splog and I encourage all of them to file a DMCA notice as well.

I stole this from Maryse a while back. Enjoy!

The game is SCATTERGORIES, and it’s harder than it looks! Here are the rules: Use the 1st letter of your name to answer each of the following. They MUST be real places, names, things…NOTHING made up! If you can’t think of anything, skip it. Try to use different answers if the person before you had the same 1st initial. You CAN’T use your name for the boy/girl name question. Have fun!

How to Darn Socks

Yarn Harlot Style!

Hold the socks over the garbage can.

Proclaim loudly, “Darn it!” and release.

Repeat as necessary.

I admit, this is a rather disappointing development, considering that the socks in question were only a few months old. However, I have now learned a hard lesson about taking care of hand knits, even if the yarn is “superwash”. In the future, I will still use my washing machine to wash my hand knits, but only on the soak cycle and with a wool wash like Soak or Eucalan (and bad me for abusing the socks the way I did).
