Random Thursday

1. I went out today, totally against my will, to purchase provisions for tomorrow’s impending FEARSOME WHITE FLAKES OF DEATH!

2. I did this because I am a grown up and that’s what grown ups do.

3. I would have much preferred to stay home and knit while streaming Firefly on Netflix.

4. Best quote I heard today: “If there’s stuff on Google, why would you need to stuff it into your head?”

5. Most amazing video I saw today:

6. I am nearly to the center of my Ruffled Baktus wherein I will begin the decreases.

7. Pictures tomorrow.

totally random sunday

1. I spent Friday night in the ER, thanks to a Starbuck’s barista playing fast and loose with the procedures that keep cow’s milk and soy milk separate. Note to all Starbucks baristas: soy milk and cow’s milk are not interchangeable! And yes, I really can tell the difference.

2. 11 years ago yesterday, my husband and I were married in a small private ceremony at Niagara Falls in Ontario, Canada.

Eleven years and I love him more now than I did the day we were married. <3

3. I finished one pair of Knucks and cast on another the very next day:

[ravelry]

People, if you haven’t made these yet, don’t let the finishing work put you off! It’s really not that bad. So go. Go now and make some Knucks!

4. Today is 10-10-10. Just sayin’.

5. Last night as I fell asleep, I was trying to come up with an idea for my NaNoWriMo novel this year. I woke up this morning with a great idea involving a bus, temporal displacement, and a sleepy mountain town in Colorado. Now to come up with a large cast of characters.

More Random Stuff

1. The Tour de Fleece is still going and I am still spinning. I made a nice fat hank of Corriedale yarn and started on the Romney fleece.

2. Corriedale is nice to spin, but I still prefer BFL.

(oh how I miss the Kanye Interrupts meme.)

3. There are 6 lbs. of the Romney fleece. I’ve spun exactly 2 ounces and I am already sick of it.

4. You cannot spin at the beach. At least, I haven’t figured out a way to do it. Perhaps w/ a drop spindle, but I don’t fancy sand in my fiber, so no.

5. We’ve been at the beach a lot. But, evidently it’s jellyfish season and since E4 appears to be allergic to their stings, we might not go back for a while.

6. I’ve started the rewriting process on my NaNo. It’s pretty terrible, but not as terrible as I thought. And I think I know where I’m going to start. I think.

7. I was going to work on it this morning, but I spent too much time making the Kanye Interrupting Sheep image and now I have to do houseworky things. Stoopid never ending houseworky things.

Random because that all I’ve got right now

1. My energy levels have been all wonky lately, hence the quietness of The Blog.

2. I am working on it w/ my Doctor, but in the mean time, I’ve been spending a lot of time on tumblr. If you aren’t familiar with tumblr, it’s kind of like a step up from twitter. If twitter is a micro-blog, then tumblr is a mini-blog. I’m still trying to get the hang of it, but ya’ll? I really like it. Check it out. You have to be a tumblr follower of mine to leave a comment (which means you have to have a tumblr account) or you can just subscribe to my tumblr rss feed. Either way is cool, but you know how I love the comments.

3. I was playing around with Plurk for a while, as a possible replacement to Facebook, but not enough none of my FB buddies were similarly motivated to follow me over to Plurk, so I give up. I will focus on Twittering and Tumblring instead.

4. Speaking of Twitter, I gave in. I guess now that it’s not in the news every two seconds, it’s more tolerable. The only problem is I find I get that stupid Fail Whale a lot. Twitter, if you’re going to be the “in” thing, please get some more servers! Which reminds me. I am troubled that it isn’t immediately apparent how Twitter makes money. There aren’t any ads that I can see. So, where are they getting the scratch for that operation? It’s a mystery.

5. PEOPLE!! TOUR DE FLEECE STARTS TODAY!!! Are you participating? I’m on Team Hoar!

My plan, since I am new to Tour De Fleece, is to just spin every day and get through as much of my fiber stash as I can. Granted, I am a new spinner, and my stash is not as enormous as it could be, but I do have a fair amount of fiber. Right now I have some Spunky Eclectic Corriedale on my bobbin. When that’s done I’ll move onto the Romney fleece that I’d had processed a while back. There’s a crapton of that, but if by some miracle I get through it all, I will move onto the alpaca and then the quiviut blend that I picked up at the Sheep and Wool Festival in April. GO TEAM HOAR!

6. I started a new sock:

Hopefully, this sock with this yarn will get finished this time.

7. I finished a scarf for E4.

Yes, it is a fun-fur scarf. Yes, I knitted it against my will. But, before you knock the fun-fur scarf, keep in mind that the whole thing only took up about an hour of knitting time. Maybe less. And, when people see the fun-fur scarf, they think you are a god damned genius.

8. We are dog sitting.

My friend and her family went out to Salt Lake for 3 weeks to visit family. Things are going well on this end. Sandy is a very good dog, but she still finds the cats to be terrifying, stabbity creatures. Doozer is still being kind of a jerk, although Lolly has warmed up to her quite a bit. No pictures of them all together, though. It usually doesn’t end well.

9. I’ve printed my NaNo 2009 for a reread/rewrite. I think this could be a good book, ya’ll. But it needs some work. A lot of work. And when I say “a lot”, I mean a LOT. Interested in being a reader? Leave me a comment. I’d love some feedback on it.

And that is all. The Blog is now updated. How’ve you all been?

A Few Incidental Snippets

1. I finished knitting on my sweater just a couple of hours after my last blog post.

2. Work on the yoke has commenced; pictures soon.

3. I have been riveted by the news coming out of Haiti. If you haven’t already, go to your preferred aid organization and give what money you can. Every bit helps.

4. The Mr. and I have started watching True Blood.

5. I have mixed feelings about this, being categorically opposed to post-Anne Rice vampire tales on the one hand, and needing solid entertainment while knitting on the other.

6. I worry that I might find myself saying things like “fangtastic”.

7. I ordered a iPod touch using our American Express reward points.

8. It is awesome.

9. The only thing that would make it better would be a camera.

10. And access to the internet wherever I go.

11. A dedicated Mafia Wars app would be nice too.

12. Here is a recent picture of Doozer, LOLtagged for your LMFAO convenience.

My idea of Canada may or may not reflect reality.

This morning I had a dream of driving across the vast Canadian prairie to the Yarn Harlot‘s house for tea. She showed me the BGH* under her house, which, in my dream, was actually in one of the kids’ bedrooms and looked kind of like the pit at ground zero. (Seriously, it was enormous. There was even a crane in there.) After she showed me around, we walked across the prairie to an Indian restaurant near her house where we dined on fragrant Indian cuisine with the proprietress of the restaurant, a beautiful Indian woman in colorful sari and with a jeweled bindi on her forehead. Afterward, the Yarn Harlot and I walked back to her house. I woke up wondering what had happened to the city of Toronto.

Friday Update or, Life Without NaNoWriMo

1. We put up our tree on November 28th.

Now to just get my Christmas shopping started finished. And the rest of my Christmas knitting done. And the pictures for the Christmas cards printed. And to put together a _____ for the grandmamas and — and —

2. I downloaded the new Sting album. Some thoughts: It is okay. Generally I do not care for Christmas albums that feature the “vocal stylings” of the artist; I much prefer an album with which I can sing along. Also, Sting should not make attempts to sing at the very very very bottom of his range. If I could get my money back, I totally would.

3. I started a Jayne hat for Mr. Interrupted.

It is stalled out because the red color I chose wasn’t cunning enough, evidently.

ADHD ruins another sort of okay movie.

**SPOILER ALERT**

If you haven’t seen The Other Boleyn Girl yet and give a flying rat’s ass about the plot, I suggest you stop reading now.

**END ALERT**

The other night we watched The Other Boleyn Girl. It was okay, but I had a hard time keeping with the serious tone of the movie, mostly because of this song.

Henry wants a divorce from Catherine of Aragon? “I’m Henry the VIII, I am, Henry the 8th I am I am…” Henry rapes Anne Boyeln because he can’t take her manipulative bullshit any more? “I’m gettin’ married to the widow next door, she’s been married seven times before.” Anne is beheaded for trying to get preggers by her bother? “Second verse, same as the first!”

So, yeah. Yay ADHD.
